Use the toolbox shell
PowerToolBox is a tabbed multi-tool shell with 21 registered tools. In 1.2.0, only Flow Auditor and Flow Documentation are fully live; Connection Manager reads and tests saved profiles but cannot save new ones from the UI (see Choose a sign-in method). Most Dataverse tools show sample data or are views only; the shell marks unfinished tools with a Preview badge in the sidebar and a “(Preview)” suffix in the tab title.
Tabs
- The Welcome tab is always open and cannot be closed.
- Each tool opens in its own closable tab. Opening a tool that is already open switches to its tab instead of creating a duplicate.
- Close a tab with its X or with
Ctrl+W.
Sidebar
The sidebar lists every tool grouped by category. Type in the search box at the top to filter by name, description, or category; Ctrl+T moves focus to it.
Command palette
Press Ctrl+Shift+P and type to search. Opening tools from the palette works. In 1.2.0 the extra commands listed below the tools (Generate Documentation, Toggle Dark Mode, Clear All Tabs) are placeholders and do nothing.
Keyboard shortcuts
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
Ctrl+T | Focus the sidebar search box |
Ctrl+W | Close the active tab |
Ctrl+Tab / Ctrl+Shift+Tab | Next / previous tab |
Ctrl+Shift+P | Open the command palette |
Ctrl+Shift+D | Toggle between light and dark theme |
F1 | Show or hide the AI assistant panel |
Themes
Click the theme icon in the top bar or press Ctrl+Shift+D to switch between light and dark. The choice is persisted and restored on the next launch.
AI assistant panel
Press F1 or click the AI icon in the top bar. The panel tracks which tool is active, offers quick-action buttons for common questions, and accepts free-form input. It uses the same AI backend as the findings-grid resolutions, so it runs in demo mode until you configure a provider; see Configure AI resolutions.
Community plugins
To install a community tool, drop its plugin folder — a plugin.json manifest plus the DLL — into %APPDATA%\PowerToolBox\Plugins and restart the app. Set the POWERTOOLBOX_PLUGINS_DIR environment variable to load from a different folder. Each plugin loads in isolation: one that fails is skipped and logged, and it never stops the app from starting.
The Tool Library tool in the sidebar is a preview mock of a future package catalog, not a real plugin source in 1.2.0.
